Tips for Making Property Management Easier

  • Install a rent drop box near your office. A rent drop box allows your residents to drop off their rent envelopes, work orders or service requests, and notes to the office staff any time, day or night.

  • Acknowledge, appreciate, and thank your residents! Thank residents for living at your community and tell them you appreciate them living there. This can be a simple thank you card that will make residents smile.

  • Get everything in writing! Avoid problems later by putting all important information (applications, lease renewals, bedbug addendums, security deposit forms, etc warnings, etc) in writing.

  • Enforce your policies. Don’t be selective in enforcing your rules or screening criteria. It only takes one Fair Housing complaint to cause headaches. Be sure to prominently exhibit your fair housing signs.

  • Use message boards to communicate quickly and easily with your residents. Your mail center is visited by every resident- post announcements so they won’t be missed.
