5 ways to achieve "Hotel Pool" vibes without breaking the bank!

Summer time is for pools... and pools are for carefree fun, lazy afternoons and vacation vibes. Who doesn't love a luxury hotel pool that makes everyone feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable? Well, there’s no reason your residents couldn't have that feeling right in their own, literal, backyard, right?!

Let's be honest, not all pools are created equal. If your property is fortunate to have a nice pool area, you have a head start in maximizing its potential. If your pool could use a little TLC, that doesn't mean that with a little creativity and planning, you can't glow up your pool into a commodity potential residents' won't want to live without.

Below are five ways to create “hotel pool vibes” that can be scaled to any pool size budget or style. Tackle any or all of them in stages and build upon your progress as time, budget and resources allow.  Create the vibe you want from island paradise to sleek modern oasis, and residents will never want to leave!

1. Make it easy to keep your pool area looking nice.

Provide a variety of "simple storage" solutions for sunglasses, sunscreen, towels, books and other pool necessities. Try approaching storage in layers. Small side tables beside lounge chairs can serve sunbathers, while a small locker setup can keep swimmers’ items together while they are in the pool. Towel racks are a practical way to keep your decking clear and uncluttered throughout the day. Consider larger weatherproof storage cabinets for pool noodles, inflatables and other toys you may provide.

Encourage residents to clean up after themselves. Make sure there are plenty of options for disposing of trash, both inside your pool area and near each entrance. Don’t forget to have adequate, and attractive, signage encouraging swimmers to use them.

2. Create activity zones so there’s something for everyone.

Since community pools need to work for everyone, it helps to create zones around your pool for different activities. Try grouping your sunbathing chairs and side tables together in one area instead of all the way around the pool. Shaded areas are great for dining tables and chairs, while locker storage is best near entrances and exits. Individual cabanas or tents can provide some privacy…. You can create any kind of zone that makes sense for your needs!

Don’t forget time zones! Designating ”adults only” hours in the evenings or early mornings is another way to appeal to more residents. Consider designating and "exercise hour" for those that like to swim as a workout. Then you can add that feature to your list of fitness amenities as well... bonus!

3. Create an Insta-worty selfie spot!

Pool at Vic at Interpose

If you want to create a buzz around your property, make sure people have something they can’t help but share. Create an instagram-worthy moment that residents can’t help but share and… ban! Free publicity! If you have a free wall, paint a mural. If you have lovely landscaping, place a funky chair or bench that begs to be photographed! If your property has a lot of kids… maybe a colorful curly slide! A modern neon sign looks great after hours!

4. Host events for all ages.

One thing hotels do well, is having activities for everyone in the family. Hosting a variety of community events is a great way to build rapport amongst neighbors and give everyone a reason to visit the pool. A few ideas….

  • Host Popsicles and Popcorn by the Pool” for the littles on a weekday afternoon.
  • Book a fitness instructor to host classes in the pool for residents.
  • If you have multiple pools, consider allowing residents to book one of them for private parties.
  • Show a fun movie on an inflatable screen to keep cool of an evening.
  • The sky’s the limit!
5. Find ways to utilize your pool area all day and all year long.

Pool After Hours

Just because it’s October, doesn’t mean you have to completely close up shop. When the weather allows, outdoor public spaces around the pool are perfect for happy hours, pre-party photo shoots, cook-outs, holiday parties, you name it! Investing in areas where people can gather and enjoy the lovely scenery, even when they aren’t using the pool, will give your residents more entertaining options.

Landscaping and lighting go a long way when creating luxurious outdoor spaces. Think in terms of flexibility…  add some outdoor games, fire pits with seating, and create areas where food and drinks might be prepped and served. String up some fun fairy lights and when it’s time to  bring in the summer umbrellas, you can swap them for propane heaters!

When planning how to glow up your pool area, focus on creating an environment that you and your residents will enjoy using whatever you've got to work with. Prioritize what will bring the most ambiance to your space and don’t be afraid to think outside the box... you might just be remembered for it!

We’d love to see how you style your pool to make it the can’t-miss hang-out spot in your community! Let us know if any of these ideas worked for you,  just hit us up on Instagram or Facebook and show off your property!
