Reopen Your Pools and Make a Big Splash!

Deciding to re-open your community’s swimming pools this summer may require a few more steps and consideration than in years prior. As daily life and activity slowly returns to normal, there are a lot of variables to consider such as capacity and the health and safety of your residents. But with a little creativity and a lot of planning, your residents and guests can feel safe and have a great time lounging pool side; here are some tips and ideas to help you plan for a safe and fun-filled pool opening this summer.

  1. Schedule your annual inspections. Make sure your pools are ready to open on time without any hindrances; schedule all inspections, cleanings, and regular maintenance well in advance of your scheduled opening and allow for extra time to address unforeseen issues. This is also a good time to update the signage in and around the pool. Our pool signs are available by state to ensure you are in compliance with local regulations, and to help reduce liability.
  2. Plan for capacity and crowd control. Determine what the regulations will be community wide and make that information available to residents via email, newsletter, text message, or signs. One idea to manage capacity is by assigning residents specific days out of the week to access the pool area; use different color wristband pool passes for each group to encourage compliance.
  3. Encourage good hygiene. The swimming pool and patio are high-touch areas so encourage good hygiene by adding hand sanitizer dispensers at entry points. Provide disinfecting wipes and encourage visitors to wipe down lounge chairs and seating after use. If possible, space out tables and outdoor furniture to allow residents to distance themselves from others.
  4. Above all, monitor your local government websites and media outlets for updates and adhere to all local and state ordinances for your specific area.
